A lot to report tonight.....
Linda had chemo today.....her white counts were good....a bit low on the red blood cells but a "go" for the infusions. She got Alimta and Zometa today......and is now scheduled for a full body "pet scan" on the 15th....this will be the "tell all" on how she is doing.....in terms of control of the cancer.
Dave and brother Darron both have the "cold" floating around Florida....it isn't much fun with upper respiratory problems as well as head sinus problems....they are working to keep it from Linda.
Dave's step sister "Little Sis" passed away last night....lung cancer which metastasized to many places in the body. We are sad.
Dave's stepmother is in the hospital with lung cancer which has metastasized to her brain, affecting her short term memory and balance. A decision has been made to transfer her to another hospital for radiation treatment to deal with the quality of life issues...those being the balance and short term memory...the prognosis is for months in terms of survival with no chemo planned.
How do we feel.....mixed feelings......both were heavy smokers taking a risk that could have been avoided with all the knowledge and warnings about smoking out there. Not that we say they deserved it...or wished them bad luck. It raises our awareness about taking care of ourselves.
In addition it seems most likely that they both had lung cancer when Linda got or had hers in the initial stages.....and they both missed the indicators which would have gotten them to help. Linda reacted to hers and got help....not early enough for a cure but time to continue a quality and duration of life.
We have a glimpse at what the last part of Linda's life might look like with these two experiences...frightening in part...but Linda takes some peace in knowing how much time went along with the cancers out of control....and gives her a sense she will be around for a while longer.
What else....we are still sorting through these "happenings"......they have come fast and are moving quickly......we know we have a bit of "internal work" to do....we won't push it.
Our neighbor is here from New York for two weeks and driving us nuts....which is his standard operating procedure...he is a conservative republican hating Obama, Pulosi, Reed and the rest....and loves Palin....today was the neighbor's birthday...we made sure the card we gave him had greetings from President Obama.
Another cold snap here with freezing tonight....we look to warmer days.....

We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Lil Sis. Our thoughts and prayers are with you through this difficult time.
Dave and Darron - take care of yourselves and get better soon! I know the weird weather you've had down there hasn't helped... hopefully it will warm up soon and stay that way.
Take care, and know that we're thinking of you every day!
Love,
Jim and Swee
Sorry to hear about your sister and then with your mother. WOW
I don't think it right for Florida to have cold weather especially for a golfer. Nebraska, yes.
We are getting excited. We are suppose to have 38 degrees next week. Hope it continuses to go up. Cabin fever is really taking it toll. We are tired of seeing dirty white stuff.
Linda, how are you managing those two wild man? Golfer who can't golf can get real wild.
Sorry to hear aboutthe colds. Just coming off of that now Ken is fighting it.
Take care ,
Love ya, Janet
Dear Linda & Dave,
I am up early today, as I have lots to do, so I am reading your blog early today. I also wanted to read the update about Linda's treatment from yesterday, as I knew Dave would put that in. Glad to hear that Linda did good with her
treatment.
I am deeply sorry to hear that Dave's step sister, Lil Sis passed away, & that his step mother is fighting Lung Cancer as well. That is just so incredibly sad & seems so unfair, to think of you both dealing with that right now, while Linda is still working to get her spirits & strength up following surgery.
My LOVE, HEART, & PRAYERS go out to both of you! I am meeting Judy for lunch today at 11:30, & I just saw Kathy Boles & visited with her at sorority Wed. Night at Barb Largent's. Barb invited me & my grand daughter's Wed. Evening. I took the oldest one, Chloe. Kathy said she had a nice visit with Linda, when you called her. I am keeping her in my prayers as well as you!
Big Hugs! Love, Rhody
:-(
wrapping you in a warming golden glow of peace and healing love and comfort and understanding,
Susie
Thoughts and prayers are with you and family as you mourn the passing of Lil Sis. Hope the sun shines on you soon as that warmth should help with all that you are going through. Love you both.
Ginnie
Sad news indeed. I marvel at how evenly Dave can write this series of events. My sympathies to both of you on this loss and the difficult decisions with your step mother.
Let yourselves grieve and resolve (as you have) to move forward. It is not a time to rush. Just, I might add, as it is not possible to rush the recovery from the surgery.
I echo Susie's comments. She writes it so much better than I could. You are doing spectacularly. Prayers for continued fortitude------especially with the neighbor! Oy.
Marjorie
I am so sorry to hear about the news...'
I LOVE you both very much!
hugs and kisses
Julie
Just wanted you to know that I was saddened by the news of Lil Sis and your stepmother. Wow, that's a lot for one family to handle. But I'm a firm believer (and survivor) of the fact that the Lord will not give you more than you can handle.
Thinking of you both as you continue your journey!
Sincerely,
shelly & jason paul

Very sad to hear of Lil Sis' passing. I understand your feeling about her and your Stepmom struggling with something brought on by risky habits. My aunt passed away about 10 years ago, after spending a decade or so as an alcoholic. She finally quit drinking, but the damage was done and she died after dealing with failing liver and kidneys. So sad to lose someone in such a pointless way. But, we all have habits we must struggle against.
My best to all your family in dealing with so many difficult situations all at once. My love to you both, as always.
I am so sorry the Lil Sis has passed. I will continue to pray for your step mom. They are doing wonderful things in cancer treatment everyday. I will stay positive.
Linda, Claudine and I spent the day with Jon Blosser on thurs. We had a great time. Betty Davis Dagget joined us half way through the day and all of us visited for hours! All asked about you. (Guess that they didn't learn to read)
Love you guys.
Dave+Mindy Webb are good people from Ft.Plain,NY.Self employed, hard working republicans,,, We do live to the Right of the folks from Oregon,,,who are on the Left side of us. As a matter of fact...our mailbxes lean to the RIGHT! Linda is a great person,,,as far as Dave...we aren`t sure yet. Darren, Daves's brother, is a nice guy - not sure what happened to Dave growing up!
The Webbs' are good people...just the wrong week to be around Mr. Wood....having a bad upper respiratory and sinus infections for 8 days..having lost a step sister....having a terminally ill Mom....having trouble with inheritance issues.....having to coach procedures 3000 miles away....having a wife who is operating at about 50% of normal for 7 weeks after major surgery...and a wife having to deal with some very emotional issues affecting her vainness and feminemity...and more...
Mr. Wood is not his normal joyful self....her needs some understanding, grace and space...
