Linda continues to struggle....tough night.....very hard on her body....her numbers are back up with O2 at 95/94%...her pulse is down to 135 (and up and down) which is still very high but not in the upper 150's like at times during the night....
They continue to give her antibiotics to fight the pneumonia...as well as morphine continuously for comfort....and having said that, Linda is struggling....
This is not what she wants....and we are going to discuss..are we still fighting to win (ie beat the pneumonia) or prolonging things....if the latter then we want the "comfort" "upped".....we will discuss when the doctor comes around today....
We have discussed visitors today....we discussed this with the nursing staff too...we are going to keep the numbers in the room at a time down with everyone else down the hall...trying to keep the noise down....and we are asking folks to be more quiet and not engaging Linda in terms of responses as she is working to use all her energy to fight right now...engagement would be more of comforting words and quiet touching etc etc...the nurses endorsed this approach....as the best we can all be for Linda...and it allows folks to support each other....and rotate in and out....
As a final...Linda has suddenly calmed a lot..the results of the latest morphine most likely..her breathing is calming...as opposed to hours of gasping...and sweating and..and.... Linda and I just looked at each other..I said "WOW"..she said "GOOD".....maybe the race and the pace has slowed a bit...maybe now she can sleep ...and get the rest her body desperately deserves and needs...

I hope that Linda is getting the rest her body needs and the medication's finally doing its job... and you are able to get some rest too. It's a good idea to keep things quiet - we did that with Jim's mom after she had a full day of visitors too as that totally wore her out. Please give Linda a big hug from us... and hugs to you too, Dave (of course).
Love and prayers are being sent your way!
Jim and Swee
